Is EMG For You?
ESPT Is Now Performing EMGs!
Reasons You might Need an EMG:
You may need an EMG if you exhibit signs or symptoms suggesting a potential nerve or muscle disorder. These symptoms may include:
- Tingling
- Numbness
- Muscle weakness
- Muscle pain or cramping
- Specific forms of limb pain
EMG: Understanding Its Purpose and Function
This test is compromised of two components: the Electromyogram (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS). The EMG assesses the electrical activity of muscles both at rest and during contraction. A tiny pin is inserted into the muscle during testing to evaluate its condition. The NCS is employed to gauge the health of your nerves. Professional administration of mild electrical stimulation to the skin directly overlaying the nerve occurs. The response is measured by a second set of electrodes applied to the skin’s surface, providing information about the nerve’s condition and function.
The Significance of an EMG: Exploring Its Purpose and Benefits
An EMG would assist in precisely determining an accurate diagnosis, shedding light on the nature of your issue. This information enables your provider to better outline the next steps and formulate the most effective plan, tailored to your needs.
